I always look at the summaries and genres/tags on mangaupdates first to get an idea of what the story is about. I then look at the ratings to get an idea if it's any good. If something is getting a C rating, I will usually drop it after awhile since there are a lot of more interesting series. Art is very important to me as well. However, a really good story can make me look past horrid art in some rare cases.

When choosing a new manga to read in baka updates, I usually read the title first, if I'm interested I clicked and check its arts then genre then summary, and then chapters scanlated and then status in origin country and user rating.
In case of choosing a new manga in store, I will first look at the art, mangaka then manga description.

The kind of storyline. It's a bonus for me if there's a lot of good female characters. If it looks gross about that kinda stuff, I usually steer clear.

first, whether the art is good.
tho, mostly i will read the summary first to decide whether to read it or not, so may be the most important is the plot. i don't mind whether it's not translated, bc i can try to read the raw, bc read the raw could help me learn japanese better. tho, it would better if it's translated or published here, so i can buy it.

Hmm..... I think 1st for me is genre...
Well I guess before that would be if its complete or ongoing... I generaly don't like to read ongoing manga, exceptions are when I have withdrawal symptoms after watching an anime, like for Akatsuki no Yona, Kingdom or Soredome Sekai wa Utsukushi, which I couldn't contain and started reading... well, was same with Skip Beat, but it calmed down when there was longer pause between releases, so now I wait for it to finish first ^^.
Well, after checking completion, I check genres and after that I read the MU Description to decide priority for choosen titles. Some get thrown to "someday" group, some to "soon" and some are "as fast as possible" XD. When choosing from few that are "as soon as possible" I go with art style next ^^.

i think for me its the genre then the art of the manga. and of course depends upon the hype too XD

I normally find new mangas through animes or if I read about them somewhere. But in general the Story has to be engaging and the graphics should be decent. If these two criteria are met, I look whether they get scanlated regularly or not - nothing is worse than reading and then finding out no one works on them anymore :-(

Art first (it's the first thing I see, after all!). Then I'll read a summary, and if seems interesting, I'll give the first couple chapters or episodes a go.
Though sometimes I'll get a recommendation from a friend and check a series out solely on that.

The first thing to catch my eye is the manga title. If I happen to like it then I will read the summary and take a look at the cover, but if I think the manga has a stupid name then I won't even bother to find out anything about it. Before making a decision about whether to read the manga or not I check the genre and the mangaka. I'd rather not read a manga whose author has created some other manga I hate.

Cover page, it's usually the first thing I see when scrolling through a list of manga. You can figure out quite a bit from it. After that I would read the summary and check the genres.

It's rather swallow but I look at the art first. Proportions, style, etc. Then I read the summary and read the first few pages to dip my feet in the water. If i love then i just dive it, if not then i look around for reviews LOL. Usually when I find a manga i like, I just binge-read all of the author's other work and stay in my room for days, occupied with it.

The first thing would have to be the cover art which grabs my attention. But the story line need to be just as good to hold my attention. So both are important!!

Summary, definitely. I don't like dark, gritty series, and while complex, non-black/white characters are fine, I prefer to avoid stories that feature morally ambiguous characters just for the sake of edginess. I can get enough of those by reading the news!

I usually look at the artwork first because I like having something nice to look at. Then I read the summary if the story is interesting I try the first capter and if I enjoy I try to download.

The genre is usually the starting point for me, and then story and then art. I can overlook bad looking art if the story is very good.

For anime, I look at art work and plot summary. If it sounds good then I will watch it. As for manga, I look at the drawing, artist, then summary, and read a few chapters to see if I like it or not.

Well I have this bad habit: whenever I see a character with a design that I find cute/pretty, I usually go search for its anime or manga xD (Usually long haired male characters xD)

Genre + Summary -> Art -> (sometimes) reviews
Genre and summary is usually what defines whether I read the manga or no. Art is a bonus. I can tolerate weird art style if the story is good

Hummm I guess the first thing would have to be the art for me. Then I go for the genre and summary, but I can totally tolerate a weird art if the plot is good.

I usually look at the wikia, if it has one, just to see the portraits of the characters (I don't read them, though). Sometimes I also find a new anime by watching AMV, and so if I watch an anime that didn't cover the whole story, I usually decide to continue it by reading the manga (like in the case of AnY).

I look summary at first, after the art and avalibility (if is complete or not) =)

I usually look for a really interesting story line and most importantly art, If the art-style isn't good, I usually can't read it.

The art. If it's bad or not in my taste I skip over it.

If the summary seems interesting and the art doesn't distract me, normally that's enough for me to give it a try and read a few chapters
