I still remember the day I started reading manga. Me and my brother were at some kind of exhibition about japanese culture and we got really exited about these japanese comics called manga so we bought the latest tranlated volume of Dragonball as a sovenier since it was recommended for us (they didn't sell the previous vols at the exhibition) and fell in love it, collecting eventually all the volumes.

I can't remember for sure, but it was Naruto/One Piece/Bleach (ordered from most likely to least), or maybe some other Shounen Jump manga.

Mine was probably Sailor Moon, nearly 20 years ago ;) I remember I found it a bit scary and mature and I wondered at differences between it and anime. I really liked the artstyle though.

My first manga series was CLAMP's Cardcaptor Sakura, which is still very dear to my heart. My first anime was a Japanese adaptation of The Little Mermaid, though I hadn't realized it was anime until many years later.

My first collected print anime was Inuyasha, while it was being released in individual chapters, similar to collecting comics...It was only 2.50, then once they became novels, viz was selling them at 15.99 a graphic novel.
I am sure there were others...now over 500+ manga in a storage unit....

My first manga definitely was Naruto and the shounens. I didn't get into shoujos until a while later since I didn't know they existed. (Silly high schooler back then XD)

I actually have no idea anymore what I first read that got me into reading manga.. It might have been one piece? That was one of the few that I did start reading.

The first actual manga I read was probably Cardcaptor Sakura or Magic Knight Rayearth.

But the first manga I remember buying and owning for myself was Pretear.

Sailor Moon was my starter into the animanga world but I didn't really have access to the actual manga back in those days.

My first manga was Fruits Basket. I didn't get into anime/manga until fairly late, actually. Around when I was 17/18 and that was when I would see Inuyasha on Adult Swim at night. I started watching that which prompted me into exploring other anime.

I remember seeing a girl at school who was reading Fruits Basket. I asked her what it was about since it looked like the animes I had only just recently gotten into. She explained it a bit, and about a month later I saw the anime for it in the used section of game stop. I picked it up...and fell in love immediately! But by the end of the anime I was confused. We hadn't gotten to meet the entire zodiac, so I searched to find if there was a second season somewhere- which there wasn't. That prompted me to look around the internet for more information on it. After that I learned some spoilers and I just HAD to read.

From there I bought all the volumes that were out already and continued to read until it was finished, as well as picked up other series along the way.

I have to say I'm super excited that the series is being released again. I'm so much of a nerd that I plan to rebuy it all over again, because it's too good not too. I'm also having a blast reading Fruits Basket Another now, too!

Oh god. When I was first introduced to manga, it wasn't a really good experience. I had a few friends who were interested in mangas and the genre they were interested in was Yaoi. I, having no experience with mangas or animes at the time, did not know what Yaoi was until my friend told me to read the book.

The usual manga that has that genre would have rather feminine looking men that I assumed was a tom-boyish female until the scenes arrived. I had to admit, I was scarred a bit, but I grew to like mangas as I read the more innocent ones.

Sadly, I cannot recall the manga that I read..

In terms of manga I think it was Cardcaptor Sakura. But if this extends to anime too then definitely Sailor Moon.
